Insights, trends, and tips to save your fuel cost

How is the trip cost calculated?

The calculator estimates total cost by combining your car’s fuel consumption, trip distance, and current fuel price. It converts all units automatically and shows how many litres you’ll use and what that costs.

What’s the difference between mpg (UK) and mpg (US)?

UK miles per gallon is based on a larger Imperial gallon (4.546 litres), while the US gallon is smaller (3.785 litres). So the same car will show higher mpg figures in the UK system.

Why might my real fuel cost differ from the estimate?

Driving style, traffic, road type, tyre pressure, and weather all affect fuel efficiency. The tool assumes steady driving on mixed routes for a realistic estimate.

Can I use it for electric or hybrid cars?

Yes — for hybrids, use your average fuel consumption. For electric cars, you can convert kWh/100 km to an approximate mpg equivalent for comparison (an EV version is planned).

How can this help me save on fuel?

By estimating each trip’s cost, you can plan routes more efficiently, combine errands, or compare cars and fuel types to find the most economical option.
